DTA Services Ltd. is a privately-owned enterprise based in Canada with almost a century of history and experience in the North American transportation industry.
Founded in 1920 as the Dominion Traffic Association, DTA was formed by two enterprising World War I veterans who saw an opportunity to help businesses navigate the complex maze of transportation classification and commodity tariffs, freight and tariff rules and regulations, pricing, government policies, and the rapidly emerging land, rail and sea transportation networks.
Throughout the 20’s, 30’s, 40’s and 50’s, DTA thrived in providing freight rate post audit services. Once overcharge claims were filed, DTA typically kept a percentage of the findings as fees. During the 1960’s, the concept of pre-audit was born. This new approach saw the overcharged money remain with the shipper.
Over the next two decades, DTA’s client list and reputation grew rapidly as DTA was recognized as a technological innovator. Payments were made to the carriers, management reports met the demands of the clients, then through the ’80’s, advisory services were introduced. Those were recessionary times and companies couldn’t afford a separate transportation department so they relied on DTA’s expertise.
In recent years, DTA has continued to progress, implementing more computer automation, ramping-up staff training, and introducing client and carrier quality programs. Today, DTA is one of the Canadian Freight Transportation industry’s success stories and it continues to introduce innovations that help clients spend what they should and only what’s fair.
